Amnesty International says Boko Haram has killed thousands of people, abducted thousands more, and forced over two million to flee their homes in North-East Nigeria since 2009.

The rights group made the claim in a post on its X handle on Monday, in which it traced the origins of the insurgent group and outlined its impact on civilians in the region.

According to Amnesty, the group has also abducted hundreds of girls and subjected them to sexual slavery. It said communities in the North-East have endured years of killings, bombings, looting and destruction, describing the suffering caused to millions of people through repeated attacks on towns and villages.
